Open your mouth for the mute
Proverbs 31:8-9 · 2 Timothy 4:2 · 1 Peter 3:15
DRAFT — awaiting editorial review.
“Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute” (Proverbs 31:8). The unborn child is the most literally mute human being there is. He cannot argue, protest, vote or cry out, and the whole apparatus that kills him depends on nobody speaking in his place. If God has given you a voice, He has given you a job.
That is a job of speaking, not shouting. Paul tells Timothy to “preach the word; be ready in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2), and Peter tells all of us to give a reason for our hope “with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15). The case against abortion is overwhelmingly strong, which is exactly why it can be made quietly. A speaker who has learned it well does not need volume; he needs one good question and the patience to wait for the answer.
Most people in Britain have never once heard the case put plainly by someone who was kind to them. On the pavement, in the staff room, at the family table, the conversation you are afraid to start is very often the first one the other person has ever had. The same gospel that condemns the killing is the gospel that forgives the woman who has done it, and you should be ready to say both.
Learn it, then say it. Here is where to start.

Then, your part
- Learn how to advocate
Start with the method: the question that moves the argument from the woman to the child, and how to stay kind.
- Train on the objections
Work through the objections until you can answer each one in a sentence and then in a paragraph.
- Read the street guidance, then join or start
Read the whole page before you go out, then find an outreach near you or start one.
- Request materials
Have the tract and cards in your hand before your first conversation.
